Hi there!
It’s the end of March, which means that autumn is underway here in Australia:
And it’s spring elsewhere.
I hope the change of seasons is treating you well.
Creative prompt
Today’s creative prompt is inspired by a vignette created by Anne Louise Avery. Over the years Anne has crafted a series of exquisitely written short stories set in a charming fictional world populated by both animals and humans. It’s a world where people of various species intermingle and muse on the things that make life meaningful: friendship, nature, stories, art, acts of kindness, and baking (Anne’s Patreon offers her followers some terrific recipes alongside the stories). If you’re on Twitter or Patreon, definitely give this talented woman a follow.
One little vignette on Twitter featured two women enjoying an excursion to the theatre.
And the expanded Patreon post of the same story included a link to an old clip of the show Mr Cinders:
Reading about the buzz the two women got from watching a “very charming & very funny” show made me think of audiences or viewers and their reactions to things. And that made me think about this picture:
So, my challenge to you is to imagine:
What is on the canvas?
And why is each person reacting in the way that they are? Give them a backstory.
Resource of the Month
While we are talking about engaging people in creative work, I thought I’d share with you the Toolkits page of the Being Human Festival.
This festival is an annual event that features events resulting from humanities researchers collaborating with community groups in order to present their research in creative and compelling ways. The Toolkits page has some handy resources on it geared towards staging a community event.
Thank you for reading!
I have put together a collection of articles about creative process and what it is to live a creative life. Or to try to. This includes previously published blogs that I reworked for this eZine and which had garnered feedback that showed that they resonated with readers, plus some new articles. I’ve called it Experiri, it features a beautiful cover by Rebecca Stewart, and it’s on sale now.
Please buy it and support my work.
Or just keep on reading! I so appreciate your subscribing and reading these emails.
