The soul should always stand ajar
The Soul should always stand ajar
That if the Heaven inquire
He will not be obliged to wait
Or shy of troubling Her
Depart, before the Host have slid
The Bolt unto the Door-
To search for the accomplished Guest,
Her Visitor, no more-By Emily Dickinson
What is heaven to you? For you?
For me it is connecting to inspirational things that I come across during the day – things I see, read, hear, taste, smell. Things that spark my imagination and deepen my connection to my essence-tial self.
The five fluffy grey goslings currently being reared by two Black Swans beside the lake I walk past every day. The smell of spring flowers. The sound of a singer enlivening the talk-fest of a conference and the sight of the conference-goers jumping to their feet to applaud and cheer it.
It’s the sound of a piece of opera unexpectedly encountered amongst the nonsense on Youtube. Stumbling across a quotation from an Emily Dickinson poem on Twitter. Finding a great piece of art during a Google search or in a newsletter. And the challenge of enlivening what could be a dry framework or list of words by pairing them with words and images.
Thank you for reading the last 29 posts responding to the Inner Development Goals. Thank you to those of you who left a comment. As in my first post, I will re-emphasise that my responses are subjective ones; my challenge to myself to take what could be abstract concepts or even buzzwords and to find some personal resonance to bring them alive.
I hope you enjoyed them.

What happens with this Substack next?
Free subscribers will get something landing in their inbox every second Friday (plus the odd bonus post). This ‘something’ may be a creative prompt, a recommended resource that has to do with enhancing your creative capabilities, or, if I get around to writing any, the odd article from me. The next post will be on the 3 November.
Paid subscribers will get what free subscribers get plus, every other Friday, an excerpt from one of my resources, pamphlets, or books. I’m going to start serialising them, in other words. The next one of these posts will be the 10 November.
