Dear reader,
As well as writing and curating on this Substack, I also work as a transformative facilitator, meaning that I use creative content and methods to shift the conversation away from surface chatter, or what I think of as ‘the accepted script’ that most of us perform in our workplaces, to a deeper conversation that taps into emotional intelligence and the imagination as well as our intellects.
In this facilitation work I use various creative, artistic, and literary materials to elicit responses from participants (much as I do with these Substack posts) and in one discussion I was facilitating I used an extract from a novel to generate discussion on team culture.
I wrote an article about this particular discussion, and I am proud to say that that article has been included in the Change Management Review.
Allowing time for real human connection
“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”
In the rush of transformation, are we forgetting the human need for time — to grieve, to connect, to rebuild trust?
This article contains my reflection on professional loneliness and the overlooked value of time in team dynamics. It also demonstrates the kinds of insights and reflections that surface when we design our conversations within a creative framework.
