Hello!
Tomorrow we are going to do something fun and purely imaginative (I promise!) but today we are going to work with this fellow in another reflective exercise.
This creature is a demon and today he is your demon. I want you to name him and banish him.
Yesterday I asked you to drag up from your memory an instance of unwarranted criticism or discouragement. Today I wanted to give you the opportunity to address some of the negativity that exercise may have forced to the surface.
Look at this demon and imagine that it represents the negative thoughts – the inner demons – that attach to your own feelings about your creative identity and work.
When you come to write or sketch or sing, what nasty little doubts start chanting in the back of your mind? How do you fall from grace?
Then address the demon and banish it.
Tell it it’s not wanted and to nick off.
You’ve got other things to spend your energy on; you don’t want it to be drained by your inner demons.
