Welcome!
Your creative prompt for today could be used as either a personal reflection – a journal entry or something for you to think over during the day.
Or you could use it to help you build a fictional character in a creative piece.
Here is the prompt:
“Well, I would put a question to you. What’s the difference between you and your great-great-great-grandfather? What makes you different?
I think the answer is this: what you take for granted.”
- David Mitchell in Light the dark: Writers on creativity, inspiration, and the artistic process.
So what do you take for granted that your forbears didn’t, and vice versa?
And if you were wondering who the people were in the photos yesterday:
This woman was Dorothy Levitt. Her image and an article about her book about cars can be found on the excellent Public Domain Review website.
This woman was Mary Seacole, who, alongside Florence Nightingale, basically invented modern nursing. She was amazing.
This man was Sir Run Run Shaw, pictured here with his wife and daughter. He was one of the biggest film and television producers in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He was best know for producing martial arts movies (which I wrote about).
And I have no idea who this guy was. I got his image from this website. I chose him because I love his moustache and the astonished look on his face.
See you tomorrow!
