Your daily creative prompt
“Using ideas as my maps
‘We’ll meet on edges, soon,’ said I” – Bob Dylan
Hello! Here is your daily creative prompt.
Today, I want you to grab a piece of paper and draw a map.
“Maps made places on the edges of the imagination seem graspable and placable.” - Abdulrazak Gurnah
What of? That’s up to you. But if you want some ideas:
Those of you who are world-building for a short story, book, or play might like to draw a map of your fictional setting.
If you have read or seen a story recently that you were taken with, draw a map of its setting.
Think about the creative prompts from the last couple of days, in which I asked you to imagine an uninhabited island or a forest. Draw a map of those imagined places.
Draw a map symbolising your life and your progress through it. Emily Dickson said “I am out with lanterns looking for myself.” Draw a map to help you do that.
A path that has been worn into the ground by people’s repeated walking is called a desire path. Picture a symbolic landscape you want to flourish within and draw a desire path for yourself
Have fun!
Meredith
